Matariki Story

7 little star fishes were playing and pouncing in the cold blue sea close to the big rocks. Their mother strictly told them

to them to stay close to the rocks and do not go into the dark deep sea because the big, giant fisher man Tatarimaka may catch them in his net made out of magical woven flax from Spirt Island. The star fishes were playing and totally got brain washed and gradually swam their way out to the big deep sea. Suddenly something swooped under them and lifted them up. It was Tatarimakas magic net. The 7 little fishes squawked and cried in grief and sadness. Ariki, god of the winds felt so sorry for the crying starfishes he lifted the net up and threw them up into the sky. Now they are Matariki!
