Rock This Party

This morning, Room 3 and Room 4 did some dancing with Kate. At the start, she said her microphone wasn't working, so we would have to be quiet so she wouldn't have to shout. She showed us the dance moves then we did them with the music on. First, we stood up and clap, clap, clapped, then we did moves that I don't think any of us knew. We got through half of the song then we were finished. It was fun.

Pictures in the Mind

I have been practising using words that give readers pictures in their minds.
A few weeks ago, it was a very beautiful day and that was good because it was my whole school Athletics Day. We did cool sorts of events like high jump, long jump and sprints.
First, I went to high jump. The girls lined up and Jaimee’s mum took our names. I waited nervously behind laekin.
When it was my turn, I closed my eyes to calm down. I took a few breaths then I thought to myself, “I can do this. I can do this.” I ran as fast as a cheetah then I scissor- kicked over the bar, and made it over. All of the others made it over too for the first jump.
As we scissor-kicked over the grey bar, Karla, Jasmine’s mum, lifted it up higher and higher. It got challenging. Some of the girls had to sit down because they didn't make it over. Laekin, Charlotte and I were the only other ones left standing. I ran as fast as I could to the grey bar, I scissor-kicked over it and landed on the blue plastic high jump mat. Laekin didn’t make it and neither did Charlotte. I won. I felt proud of myself.

Grandads Lesson

Long, long ago, even before my mum and dad were alive, my grandad Uncle Picky lived in a cottage in the woods. His cottage was brown and black wood and had a tin roof. Uncle Picky had black hair and the coolest eyes you could imagine. He had a lovely cottage also everyone who went there loved it, until the accident happened.
On a summery morning, Grandad was really hot so he went fishing. Grandad didn’t know that he wasn’t  meant to be fishing today.
Before he went fishing, he went for a swim. Grandad wasn’t allowed swimming either.
Before he could get out of the water, a rip got Grandad. He tried to swim out of the current but the current was too strong. There was a whirlpool that Grandad was heading straight into. It looked like a swirly lollipop!!!!! Grandad spun around like he was cotton candy on a stick. Grandad went down the whirlpool like he was bungy jumping of the sky tower. Grandad didn’t pass away. He jumped up and out of the current then he doggy-paddled back into shore. Everyone else who was swimming clapped for Grandad.
“He doesn’t deserve the clap,” said Grandad’s cousin.
Grandad’s cousin who didn’t like Grandad that much was coming on his boat. The boat was coming straight at Grandad as fast as a cheetah but a woman called Janet saved Grandad. She jumped to push his body out of the way. The disaster was that the boat crashed into Grandad’s cottage. Grandad lived with Janet until Grandad’s house was fixed.

Gumdrop's Lesson

Once upon a time, there was a little girl called Percy. She had a cat called Gumdrop. It had black and white fur. They lived in a cottage in the woods and lived happily together.
One day, Gumdrop got a fright from a delivery truck and ran away. Some children saw Gumdrop and chased after her. A dog saw Gumdrop so she had nowhere to run except up a hollow twisty tree so she ran up it.
At the cottage, Percy was looking for Gumdrop. She didn’t know what was going to happen. Was she hungry, cold or warm? The only thing Percy could think of was, “How did GumDrop get out? GumDrop must have got a fright from the delivery truck!!!”
Percy screamed, "Ahhhhh!!!!!!" as loud as an elephant’s sneeze! "Where is GumDrop?"
Back where Gumdrop was, a little girl walked by with her mum exactly where she was. “Look at that cat in the tree. Can we have her please, please, pretty please?” said the little girl.
The little girl’s mum said, “Ok but if we see one sign, we are handing it in, ok?”
Back in the village where Percy lived, she was panicking. Percy looked out the window. She saw GumDrop walking. Percy ran outside to get Gumdrop. The little girl who found Gumdrop said, “Go away. I will call the police to come and get you!!!’’
Percy knew that she wouldn’t give up too early. Percy had taken the cat and ran as fast as she could, even faster than a cheetah. She got inside and locked everything. Percy and Gumdrop lived happily ever after.

My Wonderful Mother

My mother is wonderful because she lets me go shopping with my older cousins. She gives me $50 dollars every time I go shopping.I only get 5 things and then I spend the rest of the money on her. When I get home I give her presents and she said she is going to let me go shopping every time with my cousins.
My mother is wonderful because she bakes me yummy cupcakes. She puts some vanilla mixture in little cupcake holders then puts them in the oven and puts chocolate icing on the top. She puts 12 chocolate chips on each cupcake and she puts lots and lots of sprinkles on each cupcake.
My mother is wonderful because she takes care of me when I’m sick.
She takes my temperature to make sure i’m ok then she brings me some toast and juice if my tummy hurts. She feels my head to make sure it is not too hot and if it is, she will sing me to sleep.

Foxes

What Foxes Are
Foxes are wild animals that are like dogs.
What Foxes Look Like
Foxes have gingered coloured fur and long tails. They have small legs and long bodies. They have small fluffy ears and a short necks.
Where Foxes Live
Foxes live in countries, such as  Australia, Philippines, China, America, Greenland and Japan.

What Foxes Eat
Foxes eat birds, rabbit, mice, earthworms, insects, eggs and fruit. They eat chickens too. Foxes will sometimes chase their food, like a rabbit or a mouse. Whichever one it  chooses to chase, it will lie down and wait for it to come. When it spots one, it will sneak up behind it then it will pounce on it.
Cubs
When it is time for the vixen to have her cubs, she will spread leaves and bits of hair all around the floor of the den to make a warm bed. When the cubs are born, they keep their eyes closed for ten days then they will open their eyes.
Foxes' Dangers

Some of the foxes' dangers are a golden eagle, bobcat, snakes, bears, the red tail hawk, wolves, the rough legged hawk and, the worst one of all, humans.

Healthy Breakfast

Today I learnt about eating healthy cereals. Healthy cereals are All Bran, Fibre Life, porridge and Weetbix. When you go shopping for cereals, you should look at the side of the box to see if it has less than 15 grams of sugar, less than 10 grams of fat and more than 5 grams of fibre. You should always eat a healthy breakfast. If you want to have a bit of sweetness in your cereal, you can add some fruit. Don’t  have Cocopops because they have  36.5 grams of sugar and they only have 1.2 grams of fibre. If you don’t have enough fibre in your spaghetti, you could have some wholemeal toast. Also if you want some more fibre in your cornflakes, you can add fruit to have more fibre in your body.

Anti-Bullying Show

Yesterday the whole school went into the hall to watch Elgrego's magic show.
When we were ready, Elgrego began his magic, by making birds appear. To start his magic, he opened the box and let us see that there was not a bird. Then he twisted and turned and pulled and then he opened the box and there was a bird. The whole school was amazed. The next trick that he showed us was a book. There was nothing in there, then he clicked his fingers and said, "It better work. It better work," and a bird appeared. The other tricks were amazing but my favourite trick was a cage with three birds in it and then he said, "It better work. It better work," then he put a blanket over it and a rabbit appeared.
Next, he performed a magic trick with a fizzy raspberry drink. He poured the fizzy drink into a plastic cup. He put the cup into an up- side down box then he turned the box to the left then the right then he turned it upside down. The whole school was so excited to see if the drink had spilled then he opened the box and not one single drip had spilt. The whole school was amazed and we clapped.

After the drink trick, we watched Elgrego talk with Seemore, the baby green dinosaur. Seemore was sad because at school people were picking on him. Elgego is a ventriloquist. A ventriloquist is someone who talked for puppets like Seemore. Elelgreo asked Seemore what the kids had been doing. Seemore said, "Well, they have been teasing me because I'm green. Also, when it was my birthday and I took my basketball to school, a big bully came and threw it onto the roof."
Finally, Elgrego performed the brick wall trick. First of all, he told us about what he was going to do. He was holding a curtain so he  couldn't walk around the brick wall, then he said, "It better work. It better work," and he walked through the brick wall. Everyone in the crowd was amazed and clapped.
At the end of the show, I thought it was the  best show I've ever seen.

Panthers Win

On Saturday, my netball team and I went to the netball Hopu Hopu grounds. We walked outside and played on one of the new courts. The whistle blew. We started with the ball. Aarianne got the first goal. The other team started with the ball. When they got to the end and passed, I jumped up as high as I could and I got the interception and I passed the ball to Maru and we got the second goal. It took ages for the ball to come down to the Diamonds GS. When the ball got down, C was so tired that she passed the ball straight to me.We took the ball down to Aarianne and got our fourth goal. At the end of the game, the final score was 10/0 to PANTHERS. I felt really happy because we won!!!

A Fishy Tale

One day, my family and I went to Raglan.
When we got there, we went fishing straight away.
When we got out to the harbour, I threw my rod in the water and waited and waited and waited, then I got something!!  I pulled and pushed and, when I got it, I screamed and screamed!!
It was a sting-ray! Ahhhhh!  I got such a huge fright that I dropped my rod in the water.
My Pop pulled the motor and we zoomed across the water.  My brother jumped into the water and chased after the rod.  The sting-ray got really scared and swum faster.
At the end of the day, we didn't get my rod back.
After all that, my family now call all my rods, "Running on the Sea" rods.
That's why I hate fishing.

Holy Week

On Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey  that had never been ridden before.
When he got to Jerusalem, the people laid their cloaks on the ground and shouted, "Hosanna to the king!!!"
Next, he had a feast with his friends. He sent his disciples to a man carrying a jar of water"Follow him and he will take you to a house.
Tell the owner of the house the teacher wants you to prepare the passover feast," so the disciples went to prepare the feast.
Holy Thursday
Jesus said, "Take this all of you and eat it. This is my Body which has been given up for you." When supper was ended, he took the cup. Again he gave God thanks and praise, gave it to his disciples and said, "Take this all of you and drink from it. This is my cup of blood, the blood of new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for all so that all sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me." When Jesus had finished eating, he got up from the table and went to a different part of the room and wrapped a large towel around him then poured some water into a bowl then began to wash the disciples feet.
Good Friday
After Jesus was finished, he went to the garden but one of his disciples told  the solders where he was, then they made Jesus carry the huge cross up a big big big hill. When they got up the hill, the solders put nails in his his hands and feet on the cross.
Holy Saturday
Jesus got put into a tomb.
Easter Sunday
Jesus rose from the dead.

Callis Went Crazy

Last week I went to Marni's house and Amia almost had a terrible accident!
We were all outside but... uh oh! Callis (5 years old) had too much coke and went crazy like a chimp that got shot by a crazy arrow. First of all he grabbed his dads phone, went on the middle of the road and danced to gaman style!!
Then he pushed Amrani off her bike like a wrestler!
Next he threw Amia on the tramp and it looked like she fell off a cliff.
After that I put him on my shoulder and I tried to take him to his mum but he kept on biting me like a angry penguin that was biting me as hard as it could.
But soon I finally got him to his mum  and he got in huge trouble.  After a while his mum decided to ground him for a 2 weeks but at the end of the day I had some fun.  But I did have a bite mark on my shoulder.

The Adult Race

Yesterday, the school went to swimming sports at the Ngaruawahia.
After lunch, was the ball race. First, the house captain put us into groups, then the race started. Piper jumped into the pool and ran as fast as a tiger. She got to the other side. She passed the ball to Cody then Cody ran and passed the ball to Antony. Antony ran through the water like a cheetah and he passed it to me. It was like the water was saying to me, "Hop in, hop in.:

I hopped in and I felt like I was trapped in a freezer. I held onto the ball and kicked as fast as I could. My tummy had more butterflies than ever. My heart was pounding because I didn't want to let my team down. I finally got to the end and I passed it to River.
After the last relay, my brother was on the diving board because he was in the adult race. I could see that he was nervous because he stood behind everyone and he was shaking, then the whistle blew, “Oooooooo.” My brother was off. I was cheering as loudly as I could. My heart was pumping very fast. Molly told me that my brother looked liked a giant and I giggled and giggled and giggled.
After a while, I realised that she was right, then Morgan tagged Guy, then Guy tagged the wall and the adults finally won.  In all those years, they won only one, because my brother was on their team.

Shrove Tuesday

Today is Tuesday and it is also called Shrove Tuesday.
In the  morning, we burnt last year's palms so Father Keane can do a cross on our forehead in Mass tomorrow so it can remind us to always  follow Jesus.
After swimming, some ladies came into our class to talk about Tonga. One lady was from Caritas Tonga and the other lady was from Caritas NZ.
The lady from Tonga was called Olivina and she told us lots of interesting things. She told us  they chopped mulberry trees in half and then they skinned them. They also dried them, soaked them overnight then, in the morning,  they beat them with wooden clubs. After a while, they made them into table cloths and carpets.
Olivina also told us that people raised  pigs and they could sell them for money or kill them for food so that they could buy books, pay school fees and buy school uniforms.

Waitangi Day 2013

On Wednesday, it was Waitangi Day.
My cousin and I, Ammanni,  biked to the Point.
When we got there, we saw Punny Maloua Lo Lo Bee and Sarngra, then the Haggies showed up, and the Sheperds and Harpers. We had to take Caya to the kids' bouncy castle.
When we got there, Caya ran straight into the toy elephant then she ran straight into Poppy. Poppy went on one side then I went on the other side then the Funky Monkeys were on, then the Magic show was on. A man chopped  a girl in half then put her back together.

Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day is a holiday for NZers to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. Waitangi Day was when NZ became known as a country called New Zealand, Aotearoa.
On the 6th of February, 1840, in the Bay of Islands, 500 Maori chiefs signed the Treaty and representatives of the Queen.

On Waitangi Day, I went to the Point to celebrate with my family, then I watched the Funky Monkeys with my baby cousin, then we watched the magic show. The magic show was cool because a man chopped a girl in half then put her back together, then he made a disgusting cake but, when he pulled it out, it looked yummy.
